This large-scale musical project combines artistic creation with a pedagogical dimension. It is a space where poets, singers, and sound artists create a dialogue between music, spoken word, memory, and archive. Sounds are drawn from drone, ambient, and post-rock traditions; freer passages are built on prepared and percussive guitar.
Drawing on a long history of drone-based practices in Arabic and Eastern Mediterranean music, the project weaves in archival cassette recordings inherited from the Lebanese Civil War generation and explores how archival recordings can function as musical agents and how younger musicians might reinterpret drone traditions.
The project responds to a succession of crises in Lebanon since 2019 – economic collapse, COVID-19, the Beirut Port explosion, and ongoing regional instability – which have left a younger generation disconnected from the post-Lebanese Civil War aspirations that shaped the country between 1990 and 2019.
