The international student friendship club (MSKP) that was active in non-aligned Zagreb between the 1960s and 1990s has not been a subject of academic curiosity. In connection with the research she has been doing of student movements in non-aligned countries since 2019, Matic has transcribed the collection of their bulletin Solidarnost that survived after the archive was burned down in the early 1990s. She has also established contact with the few surviving members of the former exchange student community to trace the history of their activism. In addition, she plans to undertake the challenge of tracing the histories of the global majority student organizations. By organising meetings with the African, Asian and Latin American communities in Croatia, she also seeks to find means of tracing the memories of other voices active in bordered, controlled, biased and censored environments.
Petra Matić is a museologist and cultural activist based in Zagreb, Croatia.
