Quem deu nome à Terra? (Who Named the Earth?) is an Indigenous, futuristic feature film project that revolves around the identity of an urban indigenous person’s quest to become a legal citizen in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Through science fiction and fantasy, but with the approach of a documentary, the film questions how indigenous identities can be interpreted and examines the process of self-affirmation. The film also addresses issues such as tradition, ancestry, women, family, myth, sacredness, wars, impositions of the state, acts of resistance and race.
Wara is a director and screenwriter specialising in fiction direction at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television (Cuba). Camilla Lapa is a producer and cinematographer from Recife.
