War and Peace will be created in collaboration with artists and musicians from Germany, Switzerland and the Georgian Caucasus. This project, a combination of video installation and musical theatre with choral accompaniment, is an interpretation of Leo Tolstoy's novel. Arendt seeks to make a connection with current world events and address the ways in which individual experiences of war are visualised, shared and received. She is interested in visually processing individual experiences and the relevance of place, both as a site of personal memory and political context. As a former Soviet state and given the current tensions with Russia, it is fitting to examine the Georgian perspectives of the rhetoric of war and ideas of peace in contrast to those of the West.
Ayla Pierrot Arendt is a visual artist and director of interdisciplinary performances and video art. In 2022, Arendt conceived and directed the video opera Politeia at the Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main and took part in the Caucasus Cinema Autumn in Georgia.
