This Soil, That Soil is an evolving interactive and audiovisual archive that explores the experience of living between Baalbek, Beirut and Berlin. It examines how domestic spaces absorb political upheaval, how familiar objects echo across continents and how memory is preserved in the face of instability. Visits to my hometown of Baalbek reveal Lebanon’s decline—architectural decay, water shortages, power outages—while returning to Berlin evokes an unsettling sense of mirroring. The elements of home—cups, carpets, plants, posters, political messages, even the taste of tea—resurface, subtly reconstructing what I left behind. This Soil, That Soil weaves together documentary footage, staged performances and intimate portraits of family life; ultimately, it is a meditation on memory, resilience and the ways in which migration reshapes the idea of home.
