In this project I will survey the histories of Caribbean associations in the UK and map their migratory trails. The project includes visual archival research, the production of oral histories and experimentation with various technical forms on 16mm film. I will produce a moving image work with archival images both to preserve valuable information and to show that present day Caribbean association buildings continue to exist due to the promotion of certain types of labour from the 1950s onwards. I will experiment with different ways of perceiving archival images by enlarging, scanning across, and zooming in and out. I call this conceptual framework the ‘wandering eye’.
