Revenge of the Unfinished is a feature-length documentary research project by Tara Najd Ahmadi that examines unfinished artworks and films disrupted by the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The project investigates how political rupture produced a landscape of abandoned, censored, or forcibly interrupted artistic practices, asking whether incompletion itself carries historical and emancipatory value. Through four case studies – unfinished films, censored exhibitions, interrupted painting archives, and the silenced careers of women dancers – the project reframes incompletion as a critical lens on memory, loss, and resistance. Blending archival research, interviews, essayistic voiceover, and 16mm imagery, the research phase includes fieldwork in Tehran and New York to access archives and oral histories that will form the foundation for the film.
Tara Najd Ahmadi is an Iranian filmmaker and visual artist based in Vienna, working with experimental documentary and archival cinema.
