Boundary Between River Crossings is an artistic research project examining the cultural, ecological, and social meanings of rivers in Indonesia (Kapuas River), Malaysia (Klang and Sarawak Rivers), and Singapore (Kallang and Singapore Rivers). Rivers in Southeast Asia have historically functioned as centres of life, trade, belief, and collective memory, yet today face environmental degradation and cultural erosion. Through field research, archival work, and engagement with riverine communities, the project gathers folklore, oral histories, and contemporary practices related to rivers. By comparing different approaches to river management and cultural preservation – particularly Singapore’s restoration efforts – the project explores how artistic research can communicate shared challenges, rebuild collective awareness, and support more inclusive and sustainable relationships between communities, rivers, and cultural heritage across the region.
Feliani is an emerging Indonesian artist and educator whose practice combines artistic research, collective work, and local knowledge production. As a member of the Susur Galur Kolektif, her work focuses on riverine communities and cultural ecology.
Susur Galur Kolektif was established in 2021 and uses an interdisciplinary approach for its activities, which include managing art programmes, sharing knowledge sources, and rereading sociocultural space as a playground and artistic laboratory.
