Specific decisions, circumstances and human actions underlie every single euro. The feature film Eine Zahl mit neun Nullen (A Number with Nine Zeros) explores these issues in terms of the extremely topical issue of inheritance. Where does money come from and how do heirs deal with (inherited) violence? Pardeller has created complex characters for her German family dramedy who are confronted with the knowledge of being third generation heirs of the National Socialist era either as perpetrators or as victims. She also addresses the question of what it means to be feminist and lesbian in reference to a responsible approach to perpetrators of Nazism. Having inherited a condominium in Vienna herself, she has been concerned for years with her own involvement in the question of benefiting from exploitation and expropriation.
Marlene Pardeller studied philosophy and trained in film montage in Berlin. She has been working primarily as a director since 2012.
