In our short film, a poignant narrative unfolds around the evocative decay of a grounded boat, the Karl Marx-Luanda, weaving together the aspirations of socialist Angola and the echoes of the German Democratic Republic. Still resting on Santiago Beach in Angola today, the corroded remnants of the Soviet-Angolan fishing initiative expose the unintended consequences of Cold War geopolitics. The research for the envisioned short film project involves a journey to unravel these layers, capturing the rusting hulk and intertwining it with the nostalgic recollections of Filipinho, a former Angolan student in the Soviet Union.
