This non-profit association of volunteers aims to find, restore and disseminate the heritage of the French-Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyne Saab (1948-2019), including images and speeches never seen before. Recognised as a pioneer of Lebanese cinema, Saab founded the Cultural Resistance International Film Festival of Lebanon, which focuses on the deprived and disadvantaged, on displaced peoples, exiled fighters, cities at war and a Fourth World without a voice. Her work is grounded in an awareness of the actions and images required to counteract (historic) violence. Twelve documentaries made during the Lebanese Civil War (1974-1982) have been restored so far. In addition to making Saab’s films and work accessible in their original version, the association is also digitising her paper archive, which will be put online before depositing the originals at the Cinémathèque Française.
