By enrolling in an intensive Deep Listening sound studies programme and partaking in a hands-on, cross-cultural exchange with Keshet, a community dance centre in New Mexico, Blegen seeks to further their social justice initiatives by understanding how body-based arts and non-verbal community practices can help people coming out of traumatic contexts and/or living in precarious conditions. As a community organiser and activist, they want to apply these skills to further learn and understand how intersectional engagements can contribute to tangible social change. Blegen is a transdisciplinary artist who integrates ways of seeing and hearing space, light and sound in their works.
Gretchen Blegen was born and raised in the occupied southwestern lands of the USA and currently lives in Berlin. They have been working in collective art spaces for over 15 years and since 2020 have worked as a volunteer at the queer refugee centre in Berlin.
