Across writing, musical composition, and live performance, this project explores grief and mourning through the metaphor of rain as a force of cleansing and transformation. Originating from the artist’s experience of loss, the work shifts from the personal towards collective forms of mourning shaped by cultural practice. Through field research in Tibet, Thailand, and Indonesia, the project engages with rituals involving water, sound, and voice, including Buddhist mourning rites, rain-related ceremonies, keening, and gamelan traditions. These encounters will inform a book, new musical works, and a performative reading that creates a shared space for reflection and presence, responding to the lack of collective mourning practices in contemporary life.
