Fiktionbescheinigung (Fictional Certificate) is an artistic research project that investigates the effects of migration bureaucracy on identity, belonging, and future-making. Drawing from the artist’s own experience of living for years under a temporary residence permit in Germany, the project exposes the structural violence and absurdity of institutional systems that render migrants’ lives provisional. Developed in Wilhelmsburg, Hamburg, the project takes the form of participatory workshops with residents of diverse migration backgrounds. Through theatre exercises, autofiction, and collective reenactments of encounters with the Ausländerbehörde (immigration office), participants transform experiences of powerlessness into shared acts of imagination, reflection, and solidarity. Selected sessions will be documented and presented locally as video and sound installations, contributing to an evolving archive.
