The Kiewa River winds through diverse ecosystems, including montane forests, riverine habitats and alpine meadows. This ecological diversity supports a wide array of plant and animal species, which contribute to maintaining the biodiversity of the region. Due to a major landslip and new development, the region’s ecological balance is in danger. This project will use complex audio-visual equipment to register change in the water and soil from different locations along the river. The data will be published on a website allowing stakeholders to advocate for the preservation of the environment. Archival research on themes including environmental sustainability, agricultural productivity, water management, tourism and cultural heritage will further contextualise the project.
The Bogong Centre for Sound Culture (Australia) is an artist-led initiative that uses complex sound recording technologies to investigate the impact of climate change, renewable energy and recreational tourism on the alpine environment.
